6 GREAT ways for Your Parish and Friends to Get Connected

“What you have received as gift you must give as gift”
Matthew 10:8

At Louverture Cleary (LCS), this is a way of life. Teaching neighbors how to read, caring for abandoned children, learning how to recycle and garden ... our students are giving back what has been given to them – in hopes of a brighter future for their country. In the US, parishes and individuals have generously supported our school to ensure our students continue learning, growing, and serving.

Here are some ways you can help:
  1. Invite the Haitian Project to speak to your community.
  2. Come to Haiti!
  3. Host a “Haitian Coffee”
  4. Offer your professional skills in Haiti or here at home.
  5. Provide financial support.
  6. Volunteer your time in the Rockford or Providence offices.

It costs $950 to house and educate one student for one year at LCD. $150 will provide three meals a day for one student for a whole year! There are many ways to help in a country that has many needs. What are your talents? Are you an electrician? Plumber doctor? Teacher? Media expert? Compassionate person? Whatever gift God has given you , there are many ways you can give it back. Talented volunteers have said “Yes” to helping out the Haitian Project, saving us thousands of dollars and helping our school grow and thrive.

5 GREAT Ways for Your School to Get Connected

Young People have a tremendous capacity to change our world! For years, Students in the US have been coming together to help students in Haiti. In addition to providing a safe healthy environment and a good education for students at Louverture Cleary School , high school and elementary school students all over the us have experienced the fund of helping students in Haiti.

Here’s what others have done:
  1. The Penny Campaign - Great for elementary schools, this program teaches children about stewardship and using our resources to care for the world.

  2. Lunchtime Exchange- Students give up their school lunch to eat rice and beans – the meal of so many developing countries. The money saved by the students is donated to the Haitian Project.

  3. Dress Down days - These are a great and simple fund raiser – easy to organize, these days can be a great way for students to learn about Haiti.

  4. The “Non-Prom” - Students in the U.S. typically spend hundreds of dollars each on prom weekend. The price-tag for a school prom is typically in the tens of thousands of dollars. Considering that a student in Haiti can receive a years worth of books and supplies for 175 dollars and a full year of education for $950(!!), a "Non Prom" creates a perfect opportunity for students to have a blast AND make a difference.

  5. The Hunger Fast - This is a powerful way for high school students and adults to learn about the developing world firsthand by giving up food with a simple juice fast for 24 hours. Schools and parishes have been very successful in raising money and awareness for Haiti this way.
